At Stylus Architects, we pride ourselves on transforming buildings and spaces while understanding clients’ aspirations. Initially Stylus Architects were appointed to design a rear single storey extension. The client later agreed to Stylus Architects undertaking a full feasibility study and reviewing the whole building as the property lacked rational order to the interior and exterior façade.  This allowed Stylus Architects to achieve the best designs and outcome for the client.

The designs included a complete overhaul and transformation of the unattractive, pebble-dashed, redbrick building. Stylus Architects reviewed both the internal spaces and exterior façade to determine how the two were linked. It became apparent that there was no rational order to either, especially the exterior façade.

Stylus Architects designs create uniformity in the facades appearance through the introduction of sash windows that are set out with sensitivity to symmetry. Reclaimed London stock brick was introduced and used to wrap around the extension at the front and rear of the property.

Internally the spaces have been rationalised and the walls moved to create a sense of entrance when first entering the building. The kitchen benefits from a triangular glazed gable and dual aspect sliding doors which open out onto the new patio area. The floor finish is the same material and level in both the kitchen and patio areas, which seamlessly blurs the lines between inside and out. Upstairs are the refurbished bedrooms with a new bathroom suite.

Stylus Architects are particularly proud of the radical transformation of this building and its response to the site and surrounding area.
