RAPUNZEL'S TOWER

Dubbed Rapunzel’s Tower, this mini like castle was constructed from materials leftover from its neighbouring Edwardian building. Stylus Architects were commissioned to modernise and sensitively extend this historic property.

The challenge, to increase natural daylight into the internal spaces and enlarge the square footage to make this building suitable as a modern family home. All whilst retaining the appearance of the original façade.

Stylus Architects approach was to insert modern architectural pieces into the existing building fabric. The recessed slot roof light runs the entire length of the property at the rear, flooding light into the open plan ground floor space. The new glazed link provides access to a new living room. On top of the house, a new roof was added to provide for a master bedroom suite. All these additions allow the original façade to remain largely untouched, sustaining the buildings history.
