Stylus Architects were bought on-board to transform a dilapidated 1940’s mid terraced property. The property also had an existing 1960’s rear extension which was in such a poor state of repair. As part of the transformation, the client really wanted a new open plan living space and kitchen area.

Stylus Architects’ approach was to do a complete overhaul. The internals were re-planned and a new contemporary extension introduced.

The main space is located to the rear of the property where the new white geometric extension is located. The form of the extension includes a tapered canopy with a floating cedar soffit. Each plank tapers to reflect the geometry of the main mass, this is also reflected in the timber decking below.

The internal spaces are flooded with natural daylight. The large bi-folding doors and slot roof light which runs the main width of the extension allows light into the deeper parts of the space. The internal material palate is kept simple to allow the visitor a tranquil experience.

This completed project has transformed an ugly duckling into a swan both inside and out.
